Oh Rome, you were magical! During summer, my family and I flew there for a week getaway from work to catch some sun and venture a different culture we never had, whilst we can. Exploring Rome on foot, was like losing myself in the tangled lanes of the historic centre. It has this charm of a bustling European city that never sleeps, but has maintained it’s rustling traditions. It is laced with so much history, that a futuristic high-rise would look devastatingly out of place, and the Romans know this. Rome, you didn’t let me down! I would definitely come back and I’m missing your good home cooked food! *cries*
Unfamiliar places are something we are not used to be and it is one of the things we cherish more as this is our first experience of something new in our family. We got used to travelling in one country where we know of and we have extended families to spend time with. However, this year is something that is out of our comfort zone. We rely on travel guide maps, google maps and speaking to the locals which was challenging.
On our arrivals got us a great start of our adventure, when one of our luggage got lost somewhere in between our plane connection *cough* left in Amsterdam *cough* but that doesn’t ruined the trip at all. Even though we got there fairly late, we want to make this trip memorable. After we had our dinner, we decided to head down to the Trevi Fountain and see what is the atmosphere like at night, more likely nearly midnight if you want me to be more specific. Boy oh boy, the fountain at night was magical! I kid you not, it was worth seeing at night rather than during the day! In my opinion anyway. See for yourself sometime in your life. I highly recommend it!
On our very first day, we visited the Vatican museum and St. Peter’s Basilica. In all honesty, I was sweating so much! I didn’t expect it to be that hot in Rome! It was fun though but tiring!
That day, I wore a simple outfit which was appropriate for the dress code for visiting St. Peter’s Basilica but also for the weather. I wore a basic navy/grey t-shirt from Primark tucked in with different shades of pink stripes culottes from Zara and black sandals from Topshop. Fashion bby!
Second day was spent in the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain. Walking is the best way to explore the city of Rome and that feeling of getting lost in a place that you do not know was the highlight of the trip! I pretend I know where we are going but in all honesty, I don’t actually know at all! Sorry parents! I bet you had fun though *wink*
I actually decided to wear shorts this time as I cannot bare the heat at all. I wore a black and white stripes shorts from H&M and a florally embroidered pastel pink top from Zara with my good old trusty sandals from Topshop.
